Suffolk firm celebrates success despite Brexit challenges

June 4, 2021

A freight forwarder based in Great Blakenham, Suffolk is celebrating a period of growth and success following a difficult year due to Brexit and the pandemic.

We are proud to announce that we are currently restructuring the business and planning to add to our services following a period of recruitment and client success.

The 20-strong team now includes an operations director and an accounts department bridging the gap between the operations team and directors Lee Steward and Darren Ryan.

Despite the challenges of Brexit and a global pandemic, the team are preparing for a busy few months.

Director, Darren Ryan said: “Brexit was surrounded with so much uncertainty for businesses like ours, but we knew that in the lead up – preparation was key.

“We wasted no time in securing AEO accreditation and investing in training for our staff with Customs knowledge. We knew this was the only way to help future-proof our business. And looking back, we’re glad we did.”

We started planning in early 2018, over a year before the first Brexit milestone in March 2019.

The AEO process (achieving Authorised Economic Operator status) took almost a year to complete. In addition we secured an extensive Transit Guarantee which is highly sought after and involved heavy financial investment. It was vital in securing the trust of our customers, Darren’s fellow director Lee Steward said.

“The measures we put in place three years ago were designed to help us get to the place we are in today.

“Existing customer relationships have strengthened, and new contracts have been signed in the wake of us putting these procedures in place in 2018.

“In exchange for their trust, we have successfully helped them navigate their way through the storm. We continue to support them post-Brexit.”
