Lee Steward and Thorsten Drennhaus from Morrison Freight attended the transport logistic exhibition in Munich in June. Here Lee discusses what they got up to at the largest logistics fair in the world.
Transport logistic is a bi-annual exhibition held at Messe München International Exhibition Centre. This year was the 17th show and the third time we have attended.
Transport logistic 2019 was the biggest yet. Around 64,000 visitors attended the exhibition which took place between 4-7 June, an increase of 5% compared to 2017. The show also reported a 10% increase in exhibitors after adding an extra hall for 2019.
Companies from 63 different countries exhibited and visitors attended from 125 nations; making it a great show for networking purposes. We spent three days meeting up with existing customers and mingling with a variety of industry professionals from all over the world such as Panalpina, BLG Logistics, DSV and Kuehne + Nagel.
During our time at transport logistic we also attended two conferences on climate protection and driver shortages in the industry.
It was interesting to hear how our industry is responding to the ongoing issue of global warming. The measures that have been put in place to make the sector operate more efficiently, which include plans to increase carbon efficiency by almost 50% and achieve zero emissions by 2050, seem to be very positive.
The conference about the driver shortage in the UK and Europe was also very insightful. It was great to hear more about the incentive programmes that are being rolled out to encourage more people to enter the industry. It was discussed that the shortage is a result of a retiring workforce, rising entry costs and many more barriers to entry. Although the wheels are in motion to tackle this issue, it is clear that it will not happen overnight and it’s going to take some time.
Winning the International Business of the Year award at the FSB East of England Awards 2019 shows that we are business that is thriving internationally and as a small business in the UK, we always find that attending exhibitions across Europe is invaluable because it puts our name on the map.
We also pride ourselves on giving our customers the personal touch, so we ensure that we visit our customers when we can. Exhibitions like transport logistic allow us to do this.
Over the next few months the team will be attending Transport Compleet in Gorinchem, Netherlands in September 2019 and Transport a Logistika in Brno, Czech Republic in October 2019. If you would like to meet us for a coffee at one of these exhibitions, please give us a call on 01473 836500 or email info@morrison.com
